The committee is delighted to announce the launch of A Fuller Sense of Self, a collection of stories told by adult literacy students, describing their life and learning written by Tricia Bowen. This project was an initiative as part of a broader Participatory Action Research project funded through ACFE. We have asked Beverley Campbell to launch this book as part of Adult Learners Week celebrations at the Glenroy Neighbourhood Learning Centre. People attending the launch will receive a copy of the book and a printable version will be made available on the VALBEC website.

We plan to take some of the workshops to regional centres in the Spring. If you are interested in hosting a workshop in your town or regional city contact the committee.
We are hoping to offer the ACSF and a Numeracy workshop.
Registrations are flowing in with strong interest from all states and New Zealand.

The National Year of Reading 2012 is conducting a writing competition as part of Adult Learners’ Week 2011 (ALW).
Published writers will have the opportunity to win a $3,000 cash prize for their work, and unpublished writers, $1,000. The judges will be looking for stories that excite, inspire and challenge audiences. Twenty-one stories (12 from published authors, 9 from unpublished) will be chosen as winners, and these will be announced during ALW 2011.

Registration for non-members automatically includes a year’s membership of VicTESOL.
Red Cross is looking for a skilled ESL/LLN trainer who can work with Asylum seeker clients; has knowledge of LLN assessment tools and can apply them for various levels; can design an appropriate program with support; start date late Sept - approx 8 hours per week based in West Melbourne.
